Ipovisione
L’ipovedente è quella persona che, seppur non essendo totalmente cieco, ha subito una grave riduzione della sua funzione visiva, causa varie patologie oculari, che determina deficit di varia entità e natura. Pertanto, pur conservando una residua capacità visiva, l’ipovedente ha subito un irreversibile danno funzionale, quindi una menomazione, che implica un impedimento (disabilità ) a svolgere tutte quella attività quotidiane come la lettura e scrittura, la guida, la tv, l’utilizzo di un computer, etc., indispensabili ad una normale vita di relazione e lavorativa, al proseguimento delle proprie esigenze e aspirazioni di vita.
Possiamo distinguere vari tipi di ipovisione a secondo del danno funzionale provocato dalla patologia.
Nell' ipovisione centrale è compromessa la visione centrale (centro della retina chiamata macula), che serve al riconoscimento dei dettagli alla percezione della forma e del colore, pertanto in questi casi diventa impossibile per il soggetto ipovedente leggere libri, giornali, o effettuare piccoli lavori da vicino, non permettendogli così di vedere l'oggetto che si sta fissando; ad esempio, guardando una persona di fronte non viene visto il volto. Le principali patologie causa di ipovisione centrale sono tutte quelle forme di degenerazione maculare che possono essere di tipo senile, giovanile o correlate a miopie elevate. Nell'ipovisione periferica può essere compromessa la visione periferica, ma la visione centrale è presente. Queste persone hanno una buona visione di ciò che fissano, ma hanno gravi difficoltà di orientamento in quanto viene compromessa la percezione dello spazio. Si tratta di pazienti per lo più affetti da retinite pigmentosa o da alcune forme di glaucoma.
Inoltre vi sono alcune patologie tipo la miopia degenerativa, il glaucoma avanzato e la retinopatia diabetica, che possono compromettere gravemente il campo visivo creando un difetto di tipo misto, causando così una disabilità sia centrale che periferica. La percezione imprecisa e incostante della realtà visiva fa sì che l'ipovedente abbia un rapporto incerto con l'ambiente e che proceda, nelle azioni, per tentativi ed errori. Molti ipovedenti rinunciano a determinate azioni quotidiane per mancanza di informazione sui prodotti sviluppati appositamente per loro.
Il Centro Ipovisione si occupa di individuare l'ausilio più idoneo in base alle varie esigenze; di guidare il soggetto ipovedente, attraverso un processo di riabilitazione visiva, al corretto uso del sistema prescritto utilizzando interamente il proprio residuo visivo.
